Reupholstering a Cultural Icon

This 1920’s Koken beauty is local. She sat lonely and dusty in a garage and then an antique shop on Maui for who knows how long. Her glory days in a barbershop on Maui where probably during the 1920s – 1960’s. She’s lived through World War II, through Hawaii’s annexation. Can you imagine the gentlemen that sat in this chair? Can you imagine the conversations that took place on this chair?

With a bit of elbow grease and TLC we cleaned her up real nice and reupholstered her in classic palaka. Can’t wait to put her up on display at the shop soon.
